"A legendary Lost Robbie has found its home in The Culture Vault..." says Raoul Pal.
'AI Generated Nude Portrait #7 Frame #92' by Robbie Barrat sells to Pal from Founder's DAO in a deal brokered by Eli Scheinman.
Via Jediwolf:
"Price paid: ~$600K. The previous Lost Robbie (Frame #7) was acquired by Punk4945 in Sep 2024 for $500K. These are the ultimate grails of AI art."
While we've dug into 'Lost Robbies' history several times, this one has particularly interesting lore. It is the inspiration for 'PUNKS Comic #1'.
"This is really the one that started it all" said GFunk via Eli Scheinman.
The central plot of the comic follows a group of Punks (inspired by the Vault's CryptoPunks) that go on a hunt to find and save the stolen Lost Robbies (inspired by the Vault's Lost Robbie).
Collectors of the comic ultimately could burn theirs for a Founder's DAO token or stake for fractional tokens to a 16 CryptoPunk Vault.
That extra bit of culture is now in the hands of Raoul Pal and his Culture Vault. Appropriate.
'Judith slaying Holofernes' 1/1 by Hackatao sells to stardust.eth for 12 WETH ($43,623) via OpenSea.
Originally minted in October, 2020 via SuperRare, it was won in auction by j1mmy for 23 WETH ($8,404).
Via Artwork Description:
"The artwork is inspired by the works of both Caravaggio and Artemisia Gentileschi. We liked the idea of representing Judith with bare breasts, as appears to be Caravaggio's first intention. While Holofernes, cyclopean and dressed in a terrorist balaclava, represents, at least for us, unique thought disguised as terror."
The first full week of 2025 is here! What will you make of it?
We are seeing a subtle uptick in collectors transacting older SuperRare, MakersPlace, and Foundation 1/1 artworks off-platform and on OpenSea.
The "list" and Rodeo debates rage on. Try not to be offended by anyone else's mental model or way of doing things. It's an opportunity to learn what moves and motivates others, which is priceless.
