'First fruit of the harvest' by Alpha Centauri Kid sells for $70,000 USD to Austin Grier from budfox_eth.
It one of 48 artworks in the artist's 'The Broken Keys' Collection, each released via auction in May 2023. This artwork was originally won for 10.4269 ETH ($19,214 USD). Its current sale sets the collection's all-time high.
Via Austin Grier:
"We did it bros. Omega grail secured."
Via Alpha Centauri Kid:
"he'd been telling me for some time that he loved the work and would one day acquire it and, well, here we are!
thank you Austin Grier, you made Broken Keys history today (and it happens to be my birthday!)"
'Twin Flames #57. Ivory & Shelter Serra' by Justin Aversano sells for 11.43 ETH to TwinFlames and is subsequently transferred to j4ckvault.
You likely know the 'Twin Flames' 1/1/100 photography collection.
But do you know the 1/1/10 'Blue Flames'?
Via Justin Aversano:
"Back in 2017-2018, while capturing the original 100 twin flame portraits, I accidentally loaded black and white film into my 4x5 camera for 10 shoots. Instead of scrapping those images, I embraced the error, transforming them into one-of-a-kind cyanotype prints through my exploration of alternative printmaking techniques."
First showcased at Superchief in 2019, then minted in 2021, 8 of 10 collectors acquired both Twin Flame and Blue Flame, creating pairings. A ninth was facilitated by Aversano in 2024.
And then...
"Today, the final piece of the puzzle fell into place as the last cyanotype collector received their matching original twin flame, completing the full set!
A journey from mistake to masterpiece, this experience has been a testament to creativity, patience, and the unexpected beauty that can come from embracing our errors. We can create new lessons from our perceived failures. It’s a matter of perspective!"
Tuesday, January 21:
'Empire' by Sheldrick with Fellowship: 1/1/500 collection, Allowlist acces live at 1pm ET, Public access live Wed 12pm ET, 55 artworks reserved for auction
Activity ticks up on a fun day with diverse artwork sales.
Larva Labs buzz continues after yesterday's Autoglyphs sales, as the attention bullhorn shifts to their official editions.
What are they?
As far as differentiation goes, there is no question the mantle goes to 'Protoglyph', as the described precursor to Autoglyphs that was too high-resolution for on-chain. There is a reason none are listed with an active 5 ETH offer sitting.
Catch Up: The Digital Art Market (DAM) Show
Yesterday's show featured Alex Von Furstenberg, Davidhenrynobodyjr, SuperRare John, Niftytime, Kayvon (Rodeo), and Nat Emodi (Highlight).
You can watch the recording here and read a few closing reflections here. The show is back next Monday at 12pm ET.
Today Reported:
Sales thresholds of (USD) $10k+ Collection, $1k+ 1/1, $2.5k+ 1/1/X, and $1k+ Edition artworks
Under threshold but interesting to me is 'Latent Ink' 1/1/500 by Eko33 with Fellowship. The collection sees two sales for 0.4335 and 0.4334 WETH.
Recall that this is the highest primary art sale of 2024. It is not breaking news that the attention economy is a real thing, and a challenging thought exercise is where a collection like this settles when the spotlight departs. Given the substantive nature of the collection, my guess is that we have arrived at that moment, allowing for a few hundredths wiggle room.
The nineteenth ART of 2025 is a tribute to both Autoglyphs and the efforts of mmERCH's LA charity sale, which involved a group of 7 artists, including Larva Labs.
