Kinetic Kanbas

'DIFFUSE CONTROL' by Beeple is headed to The Kanbas Collection.

The kinetic sculpture explores how collective consciousness shapes creative expression, and its acquisition is a year in the making.

Amanda Schmitt, head of Amanda Schmitt Art who Beeple thanks for helping bring the project to life, recalls traveling to Beeple Studios with Kanbas a year ago.

There they were "enchanted by the mad and brilliant experiment that is his studio complex" and encountered this "unforgettable 3-Tier kinetic sculpture" which was not yet finished or named.

The choice of name has significance.

Via Amanda Schmitt:
"The artwork has three distinct levels of control among the artist, collector, curator, and viewer (who become co-creators, transforming the piece in real time).

Curators will also soon play a crucial role in the future of 'Diffuse Control', selecting different images to introduce new versions of the work.

Diffuse Control has quite an exciting road ahead for it. It will be exhibited publicly later this year, and we are eager to share that news soon."

Launched in conjunction with the private acquisition is kanbas.art, including custom content alongside Beeple.

Thank You, MakersPlace

"After 6 incredible years of supporting digital art, MakersPlace is ceasing operations."

Those words initiate an outpouring of thoughts and memories of artists, collectors, and team for a platform involved in numerous digital art milestones, including the $69M sale of 'Everydays - The First 5000 Days' alongside the artist and Christie's.

Via Beeple:
"Very sorry to hear this as someone whose career was of course massively affected by this company pushing the space forward… :("

Hobbs to Hivemind

Hivemind's Digital Culture Fund intensifies its conviction in Tyler Hobbs.

The Fund privately acquires not one, but two 2022 minted 1/1 artworks originally part of the AOI Collection - 'One One Overflow' and 'Elektroanima 0.9'.

Their Hobbs collection now includes four 1/1 works, twenty-five Fidenzas, and 12 QQLs.

Via Hivemind:
"The pieces... exemplify Tyler’s exploration of merging manual and computational processes, whether through hand-drawn curves or algorithmic dot placement.

At their core, both works showcase how Tyler plays with the relationship between precise computer processes and the chaos that comes from human input and computational surprises."

REACHBACK by XCOPY

RD Report

First, we are sending deserved flowers to the MakersPlace team. A sad piece of news that caught many by surprise and dominated the afternoon.

Outside of that it has been a spectacular 48 hours of headlines for digital art.

We'll be in Telegram at 12:00pm ET breaking it all down with Niftytime. See you there!

Today Reported:
Sales thresholds of (USD) $10k+ Collection, $1k+ 1/1, $2.5k+ 1/1/X, and $1k+ Edition artworks

Under threshold but interesting to me is 'Hell of a Dish' /85 by Tony Babel seeing two additional sales of 0.27 and 0.2501 WETH.

Why all the Babel buzz? "I'm going all in this year. Starting next week." is the quote from the vintage loop maestro.

2025 Subscriber Corner

The fifteenth ART of 2025 began with the question: "What if we broke the classic XCOPY Mortal out of jail?"

This is the fun finished product polished off with a few zoomable elements, including Lost Robbie texture on the extended ART, as well as an alteration to the Mortal's knuckles. After all, art is immortal.
