BULL RUN (2020) by Beeple

RD Report

The landscape shuffle continues.

Exciting news comes from Tad Smith, as he announces the acquisition of digital collectible company Candy and intent to serve as its CEO. He says it “will operate by a few simple values on my watch: the Golden Rule for all involved; respect for licensor brands and artists; relentless focus on fan experience; frequent communication often from me.” Seeing and hearing more of Tad in and around digital art and collectibles is a great thing.

Rarible announces that they have been acquired by IMPOSSIBLE. Details of the acquisition are not yet clear, but on the face of it, this is likely the end of Rarible as we know it. The platform played a key role in the space during the 2020-21 stretch and persisted to do plenty more beyond it.

Bryan Brinkman makes a key point about the recent deluge of platform departures. “The art is often safe, but we are losing the context around the what and why.” It is now on the artists, collectors, and enthusiasts to preserve and relate it. While much will likely be lost, there is no time like the present to help preserve what matters most to you.
