24 Hours of NODE: Day Three

Day Three on the NODE premises brought panels and a party:

Welcome to NODE:
Founders Micky Malka and Becky Kleiner took the stage and recounted their journey into tokenized digital art. It began with discovery of a Mexican artist and it wasn’t until a “10th or 11th artwork” that a CryptoPunk entered the field of vision. Micky curated the perfect Punk in a day-long exploration with their daughter, Becky’s conviction accelerated after attending a session with Matt and John, and the rest is history.

A Home Built to Serve Artists:
The mic was handed to Director Phil Mohun, who told the story of a fast paced year that began with convincing his fiancé to move to Palo Alto sight unseen. Only 355 days exist between being handed the keys to an old West Elm to delivering NODE in full to the public.

Artist Talks w/ Q&A:
Matt Hall and John Watkinson entered and delivered an endearing and light-hearted trip down memory lane. Behind them played an animated representation of every single Punk transaction in history, projected over the 10,000. They said “you’ll notice when we get to 2021” and minutes later the room buzzed as the screen lit up like a Christmas tree, true to their words.

Making of 10,000:
Amanda Schmitt and Natalie Stone were a star pairing, delving into the curation and production of NODE and 10,000. Highlights included Amanda reading a letter she wrote and delivered to the team about the meaning of Punks, and Stone letting us peek behind the curtain of sourcing the materials that make NODE sing.

The Great Punk Debates:
Redbeard put Sergito and Tschuuuuly on the spot, pitting them against one another in - as the title says - a great debate. “I disagree” was the quote of the session. It began with Telegram vs. Discord, continued to price vs. culture, and they (gasp!) may have even agreed on alien vs. 7 trait.

Punk Trivia:
Wrapping the panels was Punk historian Sean Bonner presenting a 1-on-1 trivia game: Snowfro vs. Beeple. Many laughs and historical nuances followed as the artists competed, and Snowfro narrowly escaped with a win that required a tiebreak.

Party Time:
Last but not least came the party. The public entered to Poolside, Ben Browning, and Hongsta, and the night descended into dancing. Literal CryptoPunk traits were handed out and the crowd personified the 24×24 pixel characters late into the night.

Have a look at The People of NODE for a window into the people, including some of the above, who made all of this possible.

Today brings a CryptoPunks brunch, followed by a Public session at NODE featuring Beeple’s DIFFUSE CONTROL.

RD Report

The tale of two exits.

As Makersplace closed at the outset of 2025, they exhibited a tremendous amount of class. Whiteglove reachouts, a batch export tool, and the option to execute yourself or have them export for you, with gas funded entirely by them.

Thus far, Nifty Gateway’s exit is nightmare fuel. Minimal support, one-by-one exports, gas paid by collectors, a tight timeline, and a new IRS form to boot.

It’s not that the high standard of MP has to be adopted by all, but there’s a vast middle ground that would greatly improve the situation.
