John Gerrard takes LACMA.

The artist’s ‘SPIRITS (Pacific)’ collection takes over the LACMA website (view it here) for the December 21st winter solstice. Thereafter it will be viewable on its exhibition page for a year.

The overall ‘SPIRITS’ collection features plastic sandals and shoes, harvested from beaches around the world. Via photoscans and gaussian splats, they become interactive sculptures, allowing the viewer to overlay them with oil slicks and ocean currents.

The collection of 96 unveils during each solstice and equinox, 24 per season.
