Two-Hundred Ten-Thousand Dollar Man

zero dollar man’ by Joe Pease sells out for $210,000 USD in total.

The editioned work of six ($35,000 USD each) was presented with Nguyen Wahed at Art Basel Zero 10. It is acquired by collectors including BBA and Conviction.

A custom smart contract developed by Marco Peyfuss allows viewers to trigger an alternate video version of the artwork, shown at Nguyen Wahed Gallery. However, their action - an Ethereum gas transaction - does not guarantee a change. Whether it works is subject to 50/50 randomness.

Via the artwork description:
“This technological fatalism mirrors the video's internal logic: a man who wants to change his destiny confronts systems, structural, algorithmic, existential, that remain fundamentally unmoved by individual will, where pressing one's luck to process might change nothing at all at the first attempt.”
