“I finally acquired the piece I’ve always considered Counterparty’s masterpiece” says Archivist.
He continues: “In Feb. 2015, Weex [David Sterry] spray-painted a private key missing two characters, minted it as ‘KETF’… and dared Reddit to ‘STEAL THIS ART. CRACK ITS KEY.’ Stolen within hours.”
The February 14, 2025 created Counterparty artwork is acquired by Archivist for 17 ETH from Griffin.
Earlier this year and prior to collecting the work, Archivist wrote a point-of-view piece on it as part of the 24 Hours of Art Digital Art Pantheon.
Excerpt:
“This conceptual work, that could not exist without the blockchain, is backed on-chain with a RIPEMD-160 hash matching the .jpg’s artwork (a first on Counterparty, and among only a handful of works in existence at the time that had done this).”
